Mark Your Calendar for the Ultimate Rivalry Weekend in Calgary

Between tariffs and talk of being a certain someone’s 51st state, the chatter between Canada and our southern neighbor has reached a new level of “friendly” competition in 2025. Now, there’s a chance to gain an edge in that battle, and it’s happening in Calgary. On August 22, Canada’s Men’s Rugby Team will face off against the U.S. during the Pacific Nations Cup. It’s only half the battle of the weekend, too, as the Calgary Stampeders host a marquee matchup on Saturday. And when you pick up tickets for the Pan American Cup, you’ll receive 20% off tickets for the Stampeders game!

Here’s a look at what’s in store — and why you should plan to be at McMahon Stadium all weekend long.

Canada Vs. USA — With a Big Trip to Australia on the Line

You may not be thinking about what’s on your calendar for 2027 quite yet, but the members of Canada’s Men’s Rugby Team are laser focused on where they’ll be two years from now when the Rugby World Cup heads to Australia. The matchup is a direct qualifier that offers the chance to punch their ticket to The Land Down Under. It’s not merely a chance other beat the U.S.; it’s an opportunity to be part of the biggest event on the global rugby stage. Canada’s crew will be hungry for a win, too, after missing out on the World Cup in 2023 for the first time in the team’s history.

Earlier this summer, Canada’s top rugby players showed their ability to push the competition to the limit: They lost on a penalty goal on the final play of the game against 15th-ranked Spain in Edmonton. While the U.S. is ahead of Canada in the current rankings, the level of grit they displayed against Spain may prove to be the key ingredient in fueling a victory in Calgary. Pick up your tickets, and do your part to make the singalong for “O Canada” as loud as possible.

The Battle of the Prairies: How the West Will Be Won

The Canada-U.S. showdown may make the biggest headlines, but don’t leave it all at the field on Friday. The action continues at McMahon Stadium on Saturday when the Calgary Stampeders host the Saskatchewan Roughriders in a CFL showdown. With both teams off to fast 5-1 starts for a tie atop the West Division this season, there will be plenty riding on the game. Can Calgary score another victory after knocking off the Roughriders in July? Do they have what it takes to make it all the way to the Grey Cup in Winnipeg this year? Book your seats today to find out. And of course, show up well before kickoff. Stamps fans know how to tailgate, so head to Gridiron Gardens early to be part of the pre-game energy.
