Stampeding buffaloes can reach speeds of up to 50 km/hour, that's just one of many things to learn when you visit Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump Interpretive Centre. The site is one of the world's largest, oldest, and best-preserved buffalo jumps in the world. A treasure trove of prehistoric artifacts and information about archeology, the centre's exhibits include a detailed look at the prehistoric life in the area, buffalo hunt ceremonies and the ecology of the region. To get there from Calgary, head south on Hwy. 2 for approximately 160 km, until you see the signs for Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump and Hwy. 785 West. The turnoff for Hwy 785 is approximately one kilometre north of the major intersection with Hwy. 3.

Local Tip:
As cafeteria service is closed for 2024, the indoor seating area will remain open for guests to enjoy their packed snacks or something from the onsite vending machines. The site including the upper outdoor trail, is fully wheelchair accessible with wheelchairs available onsite to borrow during your visit.
