For 45 years, Glenbow’s building has served as the home of an unparalleled collection of art and history, and as a destination for Calgarians and people from around the world. Now the museum is at the beginning of a long-needed transformation. Transparency and openness are the guiding themes of the Glenbow Reimagined project. Visitors will be able to see more of Glenbow’s collection of over 250,000 artworks and historical objects – one of the largest museum collections in western Canada! New gallery spaces will allow Glenbow to show larger, more ambitious exhibitions. A new entryway and skylit lobby will bring in light and warmth and invite people in to share great experiences. The revitalized building will include a new café, theatre and shop, flexible education spaces for all ages, a rooftop patio, and plenty of public areas that will activate the street around the museum. It’s not just about what the building will look like or how the physical spaces will work, Glenbow is reimagining museum hours, admission costs, technology opportunities, and more – to ensure that the Glenbow experience is accessible to and welcoming for people of all abilities, ages, backgrounds and life experiences.
