Tourism Calgary, Special Olympics Canada and Special Olympics Alberta are pleased to share that the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games will be held in Calgary in late February/early March of 2024. This bid was a collaboration with many passionate Calgary champions and world-class venues to win this opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate and deliver an exceptional event.
About the Games:
National Games occur every two years alternating between Summer and Winter Games. The Games provide athletes with an intellectual disability an opportunity to showcase their talents and test their skills against their peers, making competition fierce and exciting for spectators. The National Games serve as a qualifying event to be part of Special Olympics Team Canada to take part in the Special Olympics World Games.
The Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2024 are anticipated to welcome more than 1,300 athletes, coaches and staff who will compete in eight sports: Alpine skiing, 5-pin bowling, cross-country skiing, curling, Snow Shoeing, Floor Hockey, Figure Skating and Short Track Speed Skating at various venues throughout the city. The Games Organizing Committee (led by Tourism Calgary) is actively seeking pre-Games planning volunteers to join various committees. If you wish to volunteer for Games-time only, please indicate in the form below. *Please note that all volunteers (Pre-Games and Games-Time) may be required provide a vulnerable sector criminal record check. All Pre-Games volunteers will be asked to confirm their commitment for Games-time volunteering (February 25 – March 3, 2024).
