Why Go
A wide range of businesses from popular restaurants, unique service shops and nightlife. A small town atmosphere with free angle parking makes the community an easy-to-shop destination. The district spans three blocks and is comprised of over 60 businesses located between 62nd Street & 65th Street on Bowness Road in Northwest Calgary. Throughout the warmer months you will see numerous colourful picnic tables dotting the sidewalks and pedestrian corners where people can sit in the sun and relax. The eclectic area offers anything from super foods, painting classes, coffee, full-suspension mountain bikes, financial services, yoga classes, tech support and much more. There's a real sense of community. Watch for special events throughout the year to bring locals and visitors together.
What's Great
The Mainstreet Bowness BIA is home to the first business ever built on main street which was called the Midway Store. The Midway Store was a convenient/grocery store that also housed the local post office. It is still standing today. When Bowness turned 100 in 2011, the businesses on Mainstreet decided to hold a street party. The Tour de Bowness Street Festival was born. Bow Cycle, a local business on mainstreet for over 60 years, has been hosting an event called the Tour de Bowness for almost 20 years. This annual event, held in August, is a fast paced bicycle race that hosts up to 300 cyclists that reach about 70kms/hour as they race against each other through the community. Simultaneously, the street festival hosts over 100 local artisans, vendors, food trucks, musicians, street performers and more. There is no other street festival like it in Calgary! Tour de Bowness Street Festival & Bike Race is on August 1, 2022.
