Mobility Cup 2014
The Mobility Cup is Canada’s premier regatta for sailors with any form of disability. The first Mobility Cup, organised by disability advocates Rick Hansen and Sam Sullivan, was held in Vancouver in 1991, as an informal get-together for participants in what was then a very new sport for the disabled community in Canada. Since then, both the sport of accessible sailing and the Mobility Cup have grown immensely in popularity, with 16 organisations dedicated to the sport across the country. The Mobility Cup sees 40-50 competitors competing in a week long tournament, and is held at different venues in late August/early September every year. Alberta has hosted this event twice in the past, in 1997 and 2005, and has seen more than its fair share of victories over the years! This year, in partnership with William Watson Lodge, an accessible wilderness retreat in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, we are bringing accessible sailing to Lower Kananaskis Lake. Whether you are interested in spectating, participating or volunteering at this event, we would love to see Calgarians out at this unique event!
