Halloween in southern Alberta has a history of traditions and celebrations that can be traced back before Lougheed House was even built! Tricks, Treats, & Traditions: A History of Halloween in Southern Alberta is the newest of our free, outdoor pop-up exhibits on display from September 25 until November 5 in the gardens at Lougheed House.

Explore all the Halloween history you never knew and discover the prairie roots of some of the traditions that have become worldwide staples of this spooky celebration! Photographs, newspaper articles, and more will take you back to a time where tricks were more common than treats and jack-o'-lanterns weren’t carved from pumpkins.
