Join us for a special evening celebrating Bob Marley’s birthday and the profound global impact of his music. From the origins of reggae to Marley’s transcendent legacy, immerse yourself in the soulful melodies and transformative power of this iconic music. Duane Forrest leads an intimate acoustic journey through the roots of reggae and the worldwide influence of Bob Marley, featuring heartfelt renditions of legendary songs that have shaped countless lives — including Duane’s own.
About Duane Forrest: Duane Forrest is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter and multimedia artist. Over the past decade, he has released two full-length albums and toured extensively across Canada, Europe, and Central America, with his music receiving international radio play in countries including Canada, Germany, Honduras, Iceland, Italy, Nicaragua, and the U.S.Duane’s interdisciplinary work blends music, storytelling, and visuals. His debut theatrical show Climb, created alongside an album of the same name, received glowing reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2019, 2022) and was named runner-up for Show of the Festival at the 2023 Milan Fringe. His recent music-theatre piece Bob Marley: How Reggae Changed the World earned a 5-star review from Broadway Baby and sold out at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe, winning Jury's Choice at the Ottawa Fringe Festival, won Patron's Pick at the Toronto Fringe Festival and winning weekly Best Music Show awards at the 2025 Perth and Adelaide Fringe Festivals.
About Bob Marley: Bob Marley (1945–1981) is one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century and one of the pionieers reggae music, renowned for his distinctive vocal and songwriting style. Born in Nine Mile, Jamaica, Marley fused the rhythms of reggae, rocksteady, and ska with messages of unity, social justice, and spiritual resilience. With iconic songs like “No Woman, No Cry,” “One Love,” “Redemption Song,” and “Get Up, Stand Up,” he introduced reggae to international audiences and became a symbol of peace and resistance. His legacy endures through his music’s cultural impact and its ongoing call for freedom, equality, and love.
