About the event
“What does transformation mean to you?”
Our youth artists’ response to this question is encapsulated in the animations they created. Using mixed media animation, they drew on lived experience as well as fairytales, mythology, and science, and used these frameworks as a gateway to express their ideas and personal narratives surrounding growing up, politics, mortality, and transformation through their eyes—perspectives shaped by navigating a world of constant change and upheaval.
Over three days of a fall break Youth Animation Camp facilitated by Quickdraw Animation Society, the 21 youth learned how to create traditional animations using pre-existing footage, while experimenting with different methods and mediums to bring their concepts to life. Alongside the completed works, the exhibition also presents process material and sketches, offering insight into the creative journey and the evolution of ideas from concept to the final videos.
Special thanks to: Quickdraw Animation Society facilitators and animators Amanda Torres and Ana Victoria Piñero.
