Amanda McCavour: From Line to Thread

This talk offers an introduction to Amanda McCavour’s work, followed by a behind-the-scenes look at how a handful of projects came to be. Rather than presenting finished pieces alone, McCavour traces the process behind them — early drawings, failed experiments, and the incremental studio decisions that shape a small idea into a large-scale piece. Part artist talk, part studio diary, this lecture seeks to talk about what happens between the first sketch and the final installation.

Amanda McCavour is a Toronto-based artist who works with stitch to create large-scale embroidered installations. She is interested in thread’s assumed vulnerability, its ability to unravel, and its strength when it is sewn together. McCavour holds a BFA from York University where she studied drawing and installation and has recently completed her MFA in Fibers and Material Studies at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA. Her work is featured in Nickle Galleries’ current exhibition, Held. Together curated by Jenelle M. Pasiechnik.
