What is Chinook Blast?

Chinook Blast is a winter festival in Calgary and the perfect chance to celebrate the season. Free and fun festivities for the whole family will be available for four weeks of the festival with art installations, activities, buskers, pop-up performances, a community stage, and artist pavilion. This year you can participate in a variety of world-class festivals, free outdoor programming, artistic light displays, and cultural experiences. There is truly something for everyone.

When is Chinook Blast?

Chinook Blast takes place from February 4 - 27, 2022. Bundle up and enjoy the outdoor and indoor fun this winter in Calgary with free activities that will take place all four weeks of the festival.

Festival events will also take place during Chinook Blast, including Calgary Folk Music Festival’s Block Heater (February 17-20), GLOW (February 10-12 and 17-19), and Ethnik Festival (February 26). Tickets and festival passes to these events will be available from individual event organizers.

Where is Chinook Blast?

Chinook Blast includes a series of outdoor displays throughout the downtown core of Calgary. You can find all the action in the Chinook Blast Hub, from Municipal Plaza to Olympic Plaza, and continuing west on Stephen Avenue and down the Barclay Mall on 3rd Street SW. The entire festival is a walkable experience everyone can enjoy. Keep a lookout for other displays throughout downtown Calgary during the festival.

Getting to Chinook Blast is easy with Calgary Transit routes throughout the city making stops in the downtown core. Taking the C-Train is a great way to access the Chinook Blast Hub with stops at 3rd Street SW, 1st Street SW, Centre Street, or City Hall. Street parking and Calgary Parking Authority parking lots are easy to access throughout the downtown core. Park near Olympic Plaza for the best experience.

What activities are part of Chinook Blast?

Start exploring Chinook Blast at The Hub, a collection of free festivities, art installation, pop-up performances, and more, in the city centre that will take place over four weeks of the festival. Community Pop-Ups will also light up neighbourhoods to create unique Chinook Blast experiences. Tickets are not required to visit The Hub or the Community Pop-Ups.

That’s just the start of the winter fun with anchor events that are ready to rock. Calgary Folk Music Festival’s Block HeaterGLOW, and Ethnik Festival will complete the rest of the calendar. Tickets and festival passes to these events will be available from individual event organizers.
