As a radio host, DJ, and journalist, I work with music every single day and truly can’t imagine my life without it. And while I may not live there full time anymore, I know that my passion for music would have never been ignited if not for the years I spent growing up in Calgary.
Some of my favourite DJs and producers in the world are from our city, and some of the best nights I’ve ever had out have happened there too. If you’re a music lover like me you’ll never have a shortage of things to do and see, regardless of what type of music you’re into. Here are a few of my top picks for events and venues that are a must-see this summer in Calgary.
While people might associate techno music as something you can only hear in a dimly-lit nightclub in the wee hours of the morning, this particular event aims to turn that perception right on its head. Versions is an afternoon dance party that happens on Tuesdays throughout the summer between 4 and 10pm at Broken City
. Heading into its third season, there will be 11 installments this summer (weather pending of course), the first of which happened June 14. With the admission price set at a very reasonable $3, you can catch some of Calgary’s best local electronic talent playing tunes under the open air on the beautiful rooftop patio at Broken City, which always makes for great, intimate vibes.
Calgary electronic scene veteran Esette spearheads the event, so be sure to follow her Facebook Page
for the details about the upcoming Versions.
