Olympic Oval
Centre of Excellence
The Olympic Oval, a proud legacy of the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, continues to stand as one of Canada’s premier sport and recreation facilities. Internationally recognized as home to The Fastest Ice in the World™, the Oval hosts dozens of national and international speed skating competitions each year, including prestigious World Cup events — many of which are open for the public to enjoy free of charge. Home to Calgary’s largest indoor ice surface, the facility features a world-class 400-metre speed skating track that also welcomes public skating sessions throughout the season. During the winter months, visitors can further experience the Oval’s exceptional training amenities, including a 450-metre indoor running track and eight 100-metre sprint lanes used by athletes of all levels. Steeped in Olympic history and high-performance sport, the Olympic Oval offers far more than a traditional skating rink. Guests are encouraged to explore the venue, soak in the atmosphere from the spectacular 180-degree viewing deck, and witness firsthand the energy of a facility that continues to shape Canadian sport on the world stage. On weekends, visitors can lace up their skates and glide across legendary Olympic ice — a uniquely Calgary experience and an enduring symbol of Canada’s Olympic legacy.
