Wrestling Canada Lutte Unveils 2027 Canadian Championship Host Cities
OTTAWA – Wrestling Canada Lutte (WCL) is pleased to announce the host cities for its 2027 championship events, following the conclusion of the bidding and selection process. In 2027, cities from across the country will welcome athletes from coast to coast for premier domestic competitions at all levels of the sport.
Calgary, Alberta will welcome the Canadian Wrestling Championships (Senior, Junior, Cadet); Mississauga, Ontario will host the Canadian Wrestling Championships (U19, U17, U15); and Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island will host the Canadian U23 Championships and World Team Trials (Non-Olympic Weights).
“We’re thrilled to have such strong host cities from across the country for our 2027 Canadian championship events,” said Tamara Medwidsky, CEO of Wrestling Canada Lutte. “These championships play a vital role in the development of our athletes at every level, and they wouldn’t be possible without the dedication and passion of our host partners and the broader wrestling community. We sincerely thank all those who submitted bids for their commitment to growing the sport and providing meaningful competitive opportunities for our athletes.”
The focal point of the calendar will be the Canadian Wrestling Championships (Senior, Junior, Cadet) in Calgary, as this event will be the kick off on the road to Los Angelas for the senior level athletes looking to qualify for the Olympic Games. “Dinos Wrestling and the Canada Cup of Wrestling Society, in conjunction with Tourism Calgary, are excited to welcome the best Canadian wrestlers to Calgary for the 2027 Canadian Wrestling Championships (Senior, Junior, and Cadet),” said Mitch Ostberg, Canada Cup of Wrestling Society. “This event is the stepping stone to the national teams and the first stage of ranking for the 2027 Canadian Team Trials. As we welcome the national wrestling community to Calgary again, our experienced volunteers will endeavour to make it a great show for athletes, coaches, officials and spectators.”
The Calgary area has been on the WCL events calendar consistently, having most recently hosted the Canadian Wrestling Championships (U19, U17, U15) in 2025 in Tsuut’ina Nation.
The largest participation event will head to Mississauga in 2027. Mississauga most recently hosted the Canadian Wrestling Championships (U19, U17, U15) in 2024 and after the success of that event, they are ready to welcome back the age groups. "Matmen Wrestling Club and Visit Mississauga are excited to welcome the Canadian wrestling community back to the Paramount Fine Foods Centre Sportsplex. Mississauga has a rich wrestling history and looks forward to hosting once again in 2027," said Steven Suraci, Matmen Wrestling Club.
Finally, Charlottetown will welcome the U23 age group and senior level athletes vying for a spot on the World Championships team in one of the non-Olympic weight classes. "We are so pleased to be hosting the Canadian U23 Championships and World Team Trials (Non-Olympic Weights) in 2027,” said Megan Morrison, President, Wrestling PEI. “PEI's own Vanessa Keefe is scheduled to take part and with recent success at the 2025 Canada Summer Games, as well as PEI's Hannah Taylor being a member of the Canadian Olympic Team in 2024, this is another opportunity for PEI to showcase wrestling and local talent at the top level. Hosting the 2022 Canada Cup of Wrestling and the 2009 Canada Summer Games left PEI with a legacy to be able to host high profile national wrestling events."
These events all represent key milestones in the athlete development pathway and serve as important selection opportunities for international competition, especially being a year out from the 2028 Olympic Games. WCL looks forward to working with each host city to deliver exceptional championship experiences for athletes, coaches, officials, and fans alike.
