Lorna MacLachlan and Friends

Lorna MacLachlan is involved is several performing groups, including The Calgary Women’s Jazz Collective (pianist and composer) and the Lorna MacLachlan Quintet.

For this performance, The ProArts series, Lorna is joined by two of her favourite players: Richard Harding and David Lavoie. These two accomplished musicians are an essential part of Lorna’s music as the horn lines intertwine throughout each piece and are written to highlight their beautiful playing together and as soloists. Lorna’s music is a culmination of styles that have influenced her over the years, from classical to pop to jazz. She has recorded six full-length albums of original music and is currently working on her seventh.

Richard Harding is a prominent figure in the Calgary music community. His soulful playing and beautiful tone make writing melodies a joy for Lorna. He will pull your heart out and then get you back on the dance floor within the same tune.

David Lavoie is a guitarist, trumpeter, composer and educator in Calgary. He is a beautiful player and a thoughtful improvisor. His work on the trumpet is a welcome addition to this group. While he is the youngest member, one would never guess based on his brilliant playing and skillful solos.
