Learn to DJ with Trexx Workshop

Learn the basics of DJ-ing with Trexx!

This hands-on DJ workshop introduces participants to the foundations of DJing, from analyzing tracks with DJ software to making simple transitions on the decks. Participants will be introduced to cueing, EQs, faders, filters, looping and FX, with time for guided practice. The workshop will also briefly explore where DJs find their music and how they prepare for a set. Designed for beginner to intermediate-level participants, the workshop aims to build confidence, encourage participants to develop their personal taste and make DJing feel more approachable.

Workshops are recommended for people ages 12 and over. Children under 12 years old are welcome with parent/guardian supervision. Please get a ticket for each person (incl. all children).

The workshop is admission by donation! Suggested $20 - $30 to support facilitator fees and supplies.

About the facilitator:

Before she ever played for a crowd, Gabby (Trexx) attended her first DJ workshop, hoping to explore her passion for music more deeply. Coincidentally, that very workshop was hosted by Alcove! Inspired by the experience, she began seeking others who shared a similar goal of using music to create connection.

She was fortunate to find Controller Club, a free drop-in meetup for DJs. It was through Controller Club that she first met people within the DIY music scene and began regularly attending shows. As bonds and relationships formed, she found herself becoming more involved in the local scene. These connections gave her the opportunity to play countless shows within the local underground circuit. She even threw a few shows of her own.

Beyond the local underground circuit, she has had the opportunity to open for acts such as Minna-no-Kimochi and Om Unit through larger collectives and events. She has also made several appearances on CJSW Radio.

Now returning to Alcove as an educator, Gabby hopes to make DJing feel less intimidating for beginners and inspire anyone interested in the craft to give it a try. She believes that amazing opportunities can exist on the other side of hesitation.
