Before ROCKY made Sylvester Stallone a star, he was a struggling actor with little more than a dream and a screenplay. Inspired by Muhammad Ali’s legendary bout with Chuck Wepner, Stallone wrote a story about an underdog boxer who refuses to give up. When a studio wants the script but not its unknown writer-star, Stallone refuses to let anyone else play the hero.

Directed by Oscar-winner Peter Farrelly, and featuring a breakout performance from Anthony Ippolito as the young Stallone, I PLAY ROCKY chronicles the improbable journey from poverty and obscurity to one of Hollywood’s most iconic success stories. As Stallone fights to get his deeply personal project made, the production itself becomes an unlikely underdog tale, filled with setbacks, impossible odds, and sheer determination.
