SUMMARY:J.S. Bach | St. Matthew Passion
DESCRIPTION:Luminous Voices' performance of J.S. Bach’s masterpiece marks
300 years since it was first performed on Good Friday 1727 in the St. Thom
as Church in Leipzig. St. Matthew Passion is considered one of the most pro
found and influential works of the Baroque period.\n\nWritten for double ch
oir\, double orchestra\, and soloists\, the work combines dramatic storytel
ling with reflective chorales and intimate arias that invite personal conte
mplation on themes of sacrifice\, faith\, and redemption. Today\, it is wid
ely regarded as one of Bach’s greatest masterpieces.\n\nThis performance
includes our frequent collaborators\, Rosa Barocca\, having performed major
works together including Bach’s St. John Passion\, B Minor Mass and Mont
everdi Vespers. A stellar cast of soloists round out what will be one of th
e classical concerts of the year in Calgary and beyond.\n\nhttps://www.visi
