SUMMARY:Thistledown Press Double Launch
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the release of two Thistledown Press fall
titles: Carpenter Creek by Fred Stenson\, and Apron Apocalypse: Lyric Essay
s by Jeanette Lynes. \nFred and Jeanette will each read from their titles\,
then engage in a discussion about their writing process for these new rele
ases.\n\nAbout Apron Apocalypse: Best-selling novelist and poet Jeanette Ly
nes lights up these lyric essays with her inimitable wit and verve\, making
inspired and surprising sense of her past\, her obsessions\, and her restl
ess wanderings in search of home.\n\nIn these deeply entertaining essays\,
Jeanette Lynes throws out sentences like glittering lifelines to her past s
elf. She brings her rural childhood to life again\, drawing insights painfu
l and uplifting from the mire of poverty and seclusion. She charts the chal
lenging internal weather of her post-divorce campus life as a creative writ
ing prof. And in a pivotal essay on aprons\, Lynes brilliantly stitches tog
ether the loneliness and depression of rural farmwives with the hopeful mot
hers — like hers — fighting heroically to raise their kids on next to n
othing on a hard-scrabble farm.\n\nAbout Carpenter Creek: Acclaimed novelis
t and beloved raconteur Fred Stenson has written a contemporary novel about
the stories we tell ourselves\, and the stories we tell those we love or w
ant to love — and the gap between these versions of who we are\, where li
ves take flight or flounder. Set in the stunningly beautiful countryside wh
ere the plains meet the Rockies\, where the oil industry operates uneasily
beside sprawling ranch land\, and where a mean dry wind can set the whole w
 orld ablaze\n\nhttps://www.visitcalgary.com/events/thistledown-press-double
