SUMMARY:Elaine Cameron-Weir\, Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for an artist talk with Elaine Cameron-Weir in c
onjunction with her solo exhibition.\n\nElaine Cameron-Weir's practice expl
ores the systems humans use to navigate the unknown\, including science\, r
eligion\, governance\, and creative fields. Her sculptures transform object
s from scientific\, medical\, military\, and spiritual contexts into reliqu
ary-like forms that symbolize broader belief systems and power structures.
By combining found materials with handcrafted ones—such as enamel\, glass
 \, metal\, and leather—her installations often appear suspended\, balance
d by cables and architectural frameworks. These works incorporate transient
elements such as heat\, light\, and scent\, hinting at transformation and
decay\, while symmetrical shapes highlight dualities in perception and stor
ytelling. Though open to multiple interpretations\, her works suggest thres
holds or portals between states of being.\n\nBorn in Red Deer\, Alberta\, i
n 1985\, Cameron-Weir lives and works in New York. Recent solo exhibitions
include Dressing for Windows (Exploded View) at SCAD Museum of Art (2022) a
nd STAR CLUB REDEMPTION BOOTH at the Henry Art Gallery (2021). Her work has
been featured in major group exhibitions including The Milk of Dreams at t
he 59th Venice Biennale (2022) and New Time: Art and Feminisms in the 21st
 Century at BAMPFA (2021).\n\nhttps://www.visitcalgary.com/events/elaine-cam
