DESCRIPTION:Miranda Martini is a musician\, writer\, composer and sound des
 igner. \n\nHer recent solo album\, The Historian\, was featured on the CBC 
 Radio show Key of A as part of their “Best of 2025” episode\, showcasin
 g the best new music out of Alberta last year. \n\nThe album also charted a
 t #8 on CJSW Folk/Country/Blues charts for 2025\, and was featured in the A
 lberta Views Magazine 2026 Albums Guide.\n\nMultidisciplinary artist Mirand
 a Martini shares songs off of her new album The Historian—her first solo 
 album in 10 years—which meditates on her connection to the land\, her anc
 estors\, and the uneasy mantle of “singer-songwriter.” Freely blending 
 bluegrass and R&B/soul\, The Historian pays tribute to Martini’s Black pr
 airie ancestors\, particularly those of the Black prairie communities of Ma
 idstone and Campsie from which Martini descends.\n\nAs she says in the albu
 m liner notes\, Martini wrote the title track to honour three historians: h
 er great-great-aunt Daisy Williams\, who was the keeper of the family’s s
 tories\; her great uncle Phillip Risby\, an artist whose paintings are a mi
 rror of a life lived as a black man growing up in North America\; and her m
 other\, writer and historian Cheryl Foggo\, who ignited in Martini a passio
 n for using art to understand the world and her place in it.\n\nOnstage\, M
 artini uses her molasses-rich voice and gift for storytelling to invite aud
 iences into her living room\, making magic with crowds of 15 people or 500.
