DESCRIPTION:Finger weaving and knotting have been a part of Indigenous cult
 ure for thousands of years. During the Fur Trade\, this crafting method was
  used by the Métis to make sashes that served as a useful and multipurpose
  tool. These sashes became tailored to specific patterns and colours repres
 entative of different families before became a standardized symbol of Méti
 s pride during the 1885 Northwest Resistance. The Métis sash is now a cult
 ural item representing pride in lineage and tradition.\n\nIn this afternoon
  workshop\, create mini sash keychains by following Métis-style finger wea
 ving techniques! Taught by Métis artist Arlan LaVallee-Nairn and Saulteaux
 -Métis artist Rey-J Horsefall\, you’ll learn about the historical and mo
 dern uses of Métis-style finger weaving\, the meaning behind the striking 
 colours\, and how the sash became the cultural item it is known as today.\n
