SUMMARY:Michaela Slinger\, Jed and The Valentine\, and Kate Stevens
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the legendary King Eddy on August 27 for “An Eveni
ng of Song” featuring three incredible artists in one night of intimate\,
heartfelt music. Michaela Slinger\, Jed and the Valentine\, and Kate Steve
ns take the stage for a show that celebrates the art of songwriting and liv
 e performance.\n\nAbout Michaela Slinger:\n\nMichaela Slinger is a “legen
dary songbird-in-the-making” (Dan Mangan) based in Vancouver. Her songwri
ting and stop-you-dead vocals illuminate the universality of our lives by d
iving deep into quiet moments of love\, loss\, longing\, and uncertainty.\n
\nHer recent EP THERE’S STiLL TiME YET marked a turning point toward her
natural home as a singer-songwriter. Recorded at Protection Island Studios
with David Vertesi (Haley Blais\, Hey Ocean!) and Jonathan Anderson (Ocie E
lliott\, Field Guide)\, both projects capture an artist learning to sit wit
h the unanswered questions that accompany the ending of a decade. Michaela
has shared stages across North America with artists like Dermot Kennedy\, D
onovan Woods\, Hayden Everett\, Virginia to Vegas\, and Michael Bernard Fit
zgerald.\n\nHer sophomore LP This Can’t Last Forever (604 Records) was wr
itten between her muse cities of Nashville\, Los Angeles\, Vancouver\, and
Toronto and featured collaborators like Khalid Yassein (Wild Rivers) and Ry
an Stewart (Carly Rae Jepsen). Her single “Everything I Wasn’t Looking
For” appeared in Netflix’s show BET in May 2025\, introducing her to ne
w fans across the world and landing her on Shazam charts. The record helped
cement her rise\, including a nomination for Pop Artist of the Year at the
2024 Western Canadian Music Awards\, the cover of Amazon Music’s Fresh F
olk & Acoustic playlist\, spotlighting on SiriusXM’s Poplandia: About To
Break\, and a feature on CBC Music’s Songs You Need To Hear.\n\nAbout Jed
and the Valentine:\n\nA cup of coffee that warms your hands on a rainy day
\; the feeling of wind rushing through the car window as you sing your hear
t out on the highway\; songs that feel like “love letters set to music”
(Kate Stevens\, CKUA). Jed and the Valentine (Maria Khaner and Jonah Morri
 s) weave glimmers of guitar and banjo with their soul-stirring vocals\, car
efully crafting their own personal brand of sun-dappled indie-folk. The duo
had been dating for two years before they decided to start casually writin
g songs together\, bringing their most vulnerable moments into music.\n\nIt
was only months before they were invited to play at some of Canada’s maj
or folk festivals\, and in the year following\, they released their debut a
lbum Awake! (2024). Their debut was full of wonder\; the album brought soar
ing harmonies\, rich layers of melodies mingling with one another\, and lyr
ics that dance alongside the mix of string and brass instruments creating a
fusion of bluegrass\, pop\, and indie. In Like a Lion\, Out Like a Lamb (2
 025)\, the duo’s sophomore album\, punctuated the duo’s journey with a
spot in CKUA’s Top Ten. Jed and the Valentine wear their hearts on their
sleeves — and still leave you wanting more.\n\nAbout Kate Stevens:\n\nKat
 e Stevens is a Calgary-born singer\, songwriter\, and storyteller with a vo
ice that feels both timeless and brand new. Drawing from her love of early
R&B and weaving in funk\, rock\, and soul\, Kate creates music that’s hea
rtfelt\, groovy\, and unmistakably her own. Her songs invite listeners into
the snapshots of her life\; moments of heartbreak\, friendship\, and the k
ind of love that lingers.\n\nAlong the way\, Kate has earned recognition wi
th multiple songwriting awards (including seven YYC Music Awards)\, perform
ed on stages from the Calgary Folk Music Festival to the Bella Concert Hall
\, and shared bills with artists like Leon Bridges and Jim Cuddy.\n\nBeyond
the stage\, Kate champions local music as the host of The Upload on CKUA R
adio\, where she spotlights emerging voices and helps shape Alberta’s vib
 rant music scene.\n\nhttps://www.visitcalgary.com/events/michaela-slinger-j
