 one welcome.\n\nDavid Garneau: Dark Chapters and Reading the Ruins comprise
 s a pairing of exhibitions by Canadian Métis artist and scholar\, David Ga
 rneau. Dark Chapters\, curated by Arin Fay\, uses metaphorical still life p
 aintings to share the lived experience of contemporary Indigenous people co
 ntending with the legacy of colonialism and institutional containment.\n\nR
 eading the Ruins\, curated by Dick Averns\, continues the vein of still lif
 e paintings to contemplate current conflicts in Ukraine and Palestine\, and
  the ongoing legacy of the Dark Times that followed the repression of Méti
 s people. Reading the Ruins\, includes new paintings featuring NWMP-era art
 efacts from the holdings of University of Calgary Libraries\, Special Colle
 ctions and Archives. The re-contextualized paramilitary artefacts are also 
 displayed.\n\nExhibitions run at Founders’ Gallery until August 30\, 2026
