SUMMARY:Synth Soundbath: ARP 2600
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Studio Bell\, home of the National Music Centre\, fo
r Synth Soundbath\, a new monthly series exploring the intersection of well
ness and music technology.\n\nPart educational experience\, part immersive
listening session\, the program invites participants to engage with sound a
 s both a scientific phenomenon and a deeply personal\, sensory experience.\
n\nThis is not your typical soundbath. Each hour-long session begins with a
n educational deep dive into the history of music in wellness practices\, t
he science of sound\, and the technology behind an iconic synthesizer from
NMC's collection. Participants are then invited to get comfortable and sett
le in for the soundbath portion of the experience.\n\nHeld on the last Sund
ay of each month\, each session spotlights a different synthesizer from NMC
’s collection. Often associated with experimental music rather than welln
ess practices\, synthesizers offer a unique lens into the science of sound
 and the body’s response to vibration\, expanding how we listen\, feel\, a
nd understand music’s role in well-being.\n\nThis session highlights the
ARP 2600\, one of the most influential semi-modular synthesizers ever built
\, originally released in 1971. Designed as a self-contained system with pa
tchable routing\, it bridges the gap between fixed architecture synths and
fully modular setups\, making deep sound design more immediate and hands-on
. Its built-in spring reverb and characterful oscillators helped define the
sonic vocabulary of early electronic music\, from tight\, punchy leads to
unstable\, drifting textures that feel almost alive in motion.\n\nGuests ar
e encouraged to bring a yoga mat\, blanket\, or anything that helps them ge
t comfortable as they settle in.\n\nhttps://www.visitcalgary.com/events/syn
