 ks\, June 23\, at 7 PM.\n\nABOUT THE BOOK\nThe characters in the short stor
 ies of Earthen are all in need of guidance: mothers\, widows and wives\, gr
 andmas and grandpas\, teachers\, lovers\, and the young. They find messages
  in the earth and rock beneath their feet\, the mountains and atmosphere ab
 ove\, or the creatures surrounding them: birds and animals\, plants and tre
 es. The natural world insists on a relationship with both characters and re
 aders of Earthen\, in stories ranging from realism to fable to speculative 
 fiction.\n\nABOUT THE AUTHORS\n\nKatherine Koller is an award-winning playw
 right\, screenwriter\, novelist and short story writer. Books are Voices of
  the Land: The Seed Savers and Other Plays\; Art Lessons\, a novel\; and Wi
 nning Chance: Stories\, winner of a High Plains Book Award. Short fiction h
 as appeared in Grain\, Room\, Epiphany\, Alberta Views\, LitSphere\, EDify\
 , The Fiddlehead\, and Through the Portal. An avid gardener\, Katherine is 
 a founding producer of Edmonton Script Salon\, a longstanding monthly new p

 ised in Montreal and lives in Calgary. Both cities inform her writing. She 
 writes fiction\, essays\, plays\, and hybrid pieces. Her books include two 
 collections of short stories\, A Run on Hose (2006) and Key in Lock (2010) 
 as well as a collection of fictional letters\, At This Juncture (2018). In 
 response to the 2013 Calgary flood\, she wrote a children's book\,The River
  Throws a Tantrum\, to help the city's kids deal with their experiences and
  feelings. Her work has been published widely in magazines in Canada and th
 e US\, most recently in Queen's Quarterly and Isele Magazine. Rona Altrows 
 is also the editor of You Look Good for Your Age\, an anthology on women\, 
 aging\, and ageism. With Julie Sedivy she co-edited the anthology Waiting a
 nd with Naomi K. Lewis she co-edited Shy. The honours she has received over
  the years include the W.O. Mitchell Book Prize for A Run on Hose and the J
 on Whyte Memorial Essay Award for the essay "Letter of Intent\," which appe
