SUMMARY:Artist Talk with Bomi Yook
DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, artist Bomi Yook will discuss her practice and t
 he ideas and processes behind her exhibition "K‑DIALECTIC." Drawing from 
 archival research and experimental photographic methods Bomi Yook will refl
 ect on her “Split Photography” approach\, which fragments and reconfigu
 res historical images to explore the afterlives of Japanese colonialism in 
 Korea. The talk will also offer insight into how Yook engages with traumati
 c memory\, historical rupture\, and the tensions between visibility and era
 sure within her work. Bomi Yook holds an MFA from the University of Califor
 nia\, Los Angeles\, and a BFA from Alberta University of the Arts\, Calgary
 . Her work has shown internationally\, including in Los Angeles\, Seoul\, T
 oronto\, Montreal\, Santa Fe\, Greece\, and Calgary. Her work has been pres
 ented with the UNESCO Global Geopark of Kefalonia-Ithaca in Greece. Commiss
 ioned by the City of West Hollywood\, her video art was showcased at Moving
  Image Media Art\, a Netflix-owned public art screen on Los Angeles’s ico
 nic Sunset Boulevard. Her work has also been featured in international fest
 ivals including MUTEK\, Montreal\; CURRENTS New Media\, Santa Fe\; Particle
 /Wave\, EMMEDIA\, Calgary\; and FICFA Acadie\, Moncton. Yook is the recipie
 nt of the Emerging Digital Artist Award\, the Vagner Mendonça-Whitehead Ne
 w Media Caucus Award\, the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Creative Enc
 ouragement Award\, and the Künstlerdorf Schöppingen Fellowship in Germany
 . In her ongoing research on Japanese colonization and intergenerational me
 mory\, Yook has collaborated with prominent museums\, archives\, and activi
 st groups\, including the War and Women’s Human Rights Museum\, Justice M
 emory Solidarity Foundation\, National Museum of Forced Mobilization Histor
 y\, National Foundation for Victims of Forced Mobilization\, and the Civic
