BOARDS (BOTH NIGHTS)\n\nThere's not much to say about Miles Davis that hasn
't been said before. An artist that would have turned 100 this May\, he sti
ll remains a singular figure in the history of jazz and social music who he
lped re-define music (in his words) 'five or six times' in an unmatched\, 4
0+ year career. Over his 40+ year career\, he pioneered multiple genres and
constantly pushed the boundaries of jazz\, funk\, rock\, electronic and Bl
ack American Music in general.\n\nThe word genius is thrown around a lot in
music. But there is no question that Miles Davis personified this moniker
and earned every letter in the too-often dropped noun.\n\nJazz at the Attic
is proud to present two separtate nights paying tribute to Miles Davis and
his music. Selecting the two trumpet leaders that will lead a night each\,
was the easiest part.\n\nDavid Lavoie is the most explorative young trumpe
t player in Calgary\, with a deep knowledge of the amplification of the tru
mpet\, use of effects to create textures\, and knowledge of the electric wi
nd instrument that may have easily been adopted by Miles himself\, had he l
ived into the 21st Century.\n\nAndre Wickenheiser is in a word\, gifted. Hi
s approach to jazz improvisation on the trumpet and his beautiful tone are
qualities that made the acoustic side of Miles the envy of every trumpet pl
ayer who has picked up the horn.\n\nFor this special two night stand\, we w
ill utilize the same\, hand-picked and deeply talented band of Nate Waters
(saxophone)\, Sanah Kadoura (drums)\, Jeff Gammon (bass) and Juno Award nom
innee Joanna Borromeo (keyboards). All of these musicians are well versed i
n the Electric and Acoustic sides of jazz\, funk and soulful music and will
give audeiences an incredible weekend of music that we hope even Miles Dav
is would dig.\n\nNote:\n\nGet your tickets under the SAME NAME\, no reserva
tion required ! Your table will be ready 1 hour prior to showtime.\n\nIf yo
u plan on arriving earlier\, OR if you accidentally purchase your tickets u
nder different names\, just send us a note at hello@theatticyyc.ca so we kn
ow to seat you together or have your table ready earlier.\n\nCome early for
a seat\, stay late for the vibe. Whether you’re a lifelong jazz lover or
just looking for something new\, this night is not to be missed.\n\nhttps:
