SUMMARY:Iitsiiniiksi’naatsin/Story Robe
DESCRIPTION:Blackfoot story robes were recorded on hides\, mainly Iini/Biso
 n. Historically the drawings were created using natural inks derived from p
lants\, rocks\, animal fat\, and other materials. Today Blackfoot artists s
till use historical materials yet also use contemporary dyes\, paints\, and
materials. The stories that were told were often war exploits\, personal a
ccomplishments\, historical events (Winter Counts)\, and symbolic represent
ations. Warriors or artists often painted the robes\, they became our livin
 g encyclopedias\, moving around camps\, animating our histories leaving a p
ermanent record. Adrian will speak about his journey as an artist which lea
d him to being transferred the rights to create these robes\, a continuum o
f Blackfoot ways of being.\n\n*Description provided by Adrian Stimson.*\n\n
