Celebrating Calgary’s renowned volunteer spirit

For more than 60 years, Tourism Calgary’s esteemed volunteers have played a vital role in supporting our purpose of promoting and developing Calgary and area as the destination of choice for leisure and business travellers. From supporting with visitor counselling and events like the Calgary White Hat Awards, to upholding 70 years of tradition by welcoming visitors to our city with our signature White Hat Ceremony, our volunteers certainly go above and beyond to create memorable experiences.

Tourism Calgary has a dedicated and diverse community of about 34 volunteers. While each and every member of this community is an ultimate host in our books, there are a few individuals we’d like to honour in recognition of the decades of service they’ve devoted to Calgary’s tourism industry and to supporting visitors to our great city.

Elaine Baumann

Elaine Baumann

Elaine Baumann is a born and bred Calgarian, and few things give her more joy than welcoming visitors to the city she loves. She has been volunteering with Tourism Calgary for more than 20 years, finding her niche as a White Hat Ceremony Ambassador. As a natural born storyteller and proud member of Tourism Calgary’s volunteer team, Elaine takes any opportunity to share the warmth and western hospitality of our city with everyone she meets. Join us in tipping our White Hats to Elaine for her dedication to sharing Calgary’s story with the world for more than two decades.

Dode Stiles

Dode Stiles

Dode Stiles has an endless capacity for giving, exemplified by the 14 years – and counting – that she’s dedicated to volunteering for Tourism Calgary. When she retired from her role as a Tourism Calgary team member, it just made sense to come back as a volunteer. Whether she’s directing delegates and visitors to some of our biggest conventions and tradeshows, or pulling together visitor packages in the board room, there’s no task to big – or too small – for Dode. What’s more, she never shows up without her signature oat cake cookies and a smile sure to brighten the day of everyone she meets. Join us in tipping our White Hats to Dode for her enthusiasm for the city she proudly calls home, and for her unwavering volunteer spirit.

Allan Kucey

Allan Kucey

Allan Kucey has worked in the tourism industry for more than 30 years, and joined Tourism Calgary’s volunteer community as part of the Calgary White Hat Award committee more than 12 years ago. After searching for the perfect opportunity to give back to his industry, Allan settled on supporting the nearly 60-year-old Tourism Calgary institution, which provides him the opportunity to meet new colleagues and industry peers every year. As a member of the committee and a two-time winner himself, Allan has interviewed hundreds of nominees and shares a special kinship with new inductees as he guides them to the stage for their award-winning moment. Join us in tipping our White Hats to Allan for his commitment to seeking out the best-of-the-best in Calgary’s tourism industry for more than a decade.

On behalf of all of us at Tourism Calgary, thank you to our generous and dedicated volunteers for your ongoing commitment to our organization, and to growing Calgary’s reputation as the ultimate host city. When we work together, our community spirit shines brightest.
