Tourism Calgary attends Showcase Canada-Asia Marketplace
Owing to a strong market presence in Asia, the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) hosted Showcase Canada -Asia in Hangzhou, China on Oct. 14-18, 2013. Tourism Calgary had a full schedule with 120 appointments during the show. Travel Alberta also held media & Trade Events in Beijing the week prior, which Tourism Calgary attended from October 9-11, 2013.
The annual marketplace showcased the destination from coast to coast to key buyers from China, India, Japan and Korea, in a business exchange environment with a proven format of pre-scheduled appointments and networking events.
As the brand continued to build on the success of Showcase Canada Asia 2012 in Osaka, Japan, the focus continued on efforts to excite and intrigue not only existing but new potential operators to include Canada in their programming. Led by the team in China under Derek Galpin, the entire CTC Asia Team dedicated themselves to make the show another successful event.
The trade action over the five days at Sheraton Hotel Wetland Park Resort, Hangzhou, China was designed to help partners build their sales and business relationships.
This year, delegates came from the four of CTC’s key international markets, with 155 buyers making their presence felt. The event also had a total of 90 sellers attending the event making it one of the biggest shows ever.
With an efficient four-nation format, Showcase Canada-Asia has become a must-attend part of many Canadian sellers’ and international buyers’ marketing plans. Its success proves that nothing beats a face-to-face meeting to learn about new travel experiences, and build one’s sales network or contract business, even in this digital age.
