Ammonite Factory

Canmore, AB

At the Ammonite Factory in Canmore, you’ll see one of the largest collections of ammolite gems in the world. Ammolite is Alberta’s official gemstone and one of the world’s rarest gems. It is mined exclusively in southeast Alberta. Ammolite was created over millions of years by tectonic pressure on fossilized ammonite shells. Ammolite comes in the full spectrum of colours from red to violet. The iridescent colours of the gems are often compared with black opals.
The Ammonite Factory offers high-quality ammolite necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings and other jewellery. At the Ammonite Factory’s gallery, you’ll find a large selection of unset Ammolite gems, as well as rare two-sided imperials. A large number of free-standing art pieces and full ammonite fossils are on display and available for purchase.
Take the factory tour to learn about the ammonite mining and ammolite manufacturing process.
