The Calgary Civic Symphony brings its winter seasonal concert “ICETIME” to the stage of the Jack Singer Concert Hall on Sunday, December 10th at 2:30 pm. ICETIME features The Hockey Sweater, the iconic story of a ten-year-old’s angst. Set in rural Québec, The Hockey Sweater tells the poignant story of a ten-year-old boy who receives a Toronto Maple Leafs sweater rather than the coveted jersey of Les Canadiens - the only team truly recognized by local hockey players. There is no one but the author of this iconic story who can truly do the narration justice. Well-known and widely respected Québec author Roch Carrier joins the Calgary Civic Symphony to tell the story of the young boy’s angst caused him having to wear the sweater when he goes to play hockey. On December 10, 2017, the Civic presents their holiday season concert—ICETIME—which will also feature well-known music from the world of figure skating. The concert will conclude with an audience sing-along featuring old favourites. A Pre-concert chat will take place in the lobby at 1:45 pm. The Calgary Civic Symphony was founded in 1975 as Calgary’s volunteer orchestra. Over the years, the Civic has swelled to over 80 musicians. With an interesting diversity in professions, its members come together each week to rehearse complex orchestral works. Under the baton of Artistic Director and Conductor Rolf Bertsch, the Symphony shapes and polishes performances that are truly brilliant! In fact, the Civic is often confused with Calgary’s other—but professional—orchestra.
