Genie-award winning The Delian Mode is a short, experimental documentary that revolves around the life and work of electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire, best known for her groundbreaking sound treatment of the Doctor Who theme music. A collage of sound and image created in the spirit of Derbyshire’s unique approach to audio creation and manipulation, this film illuminates soundscapes onscreen while paying tribute to a woman whose work has influenced electronic musicians for decades.
This evening also features artists curated by EMMEDIA:
- Kyle Whitehead presents Circles of Confusion, a generative image and sound based installation composed of dual super 8 film-loop projections integrated with dual optically sensitive sine-wave oscillators.
- Calgary artist Carl Spencer uses early experimental approaches to electronic music through formative methods of live tape manipulation and analog synthesis. This sound performance enhanced with projections, emphasizes dialogue among asyncronous machines, exploring possibilities of indeterminate outcomes within improvisational music.
- There will be a 15-minute Q&A with all three filmmakers at the end of the evening.
