The Military Museums is the largest facility of its kind in Western Canada. This multi-faceted attraction houses eight museums under a single roof.
Visitors can easily spend a day or two taking in the wide variety of exhibits. From authentic armoured vehicles and fighter planes, the history of the regimental galleries, or the rotating contemporary art and heritage exhibitions of the Founders’ Gallery, the size and scope of The Military Museums has it made one of Calgary’s top attractions.
The Military Museums is dedicated to representing Canada's navy, army, and air force and educating the public, particularly youth, about Canada's military. The museum is a short drive south of downtown. Visitors can take Crowchild Trail to Flanders Avenue and head east. Turn right onto Amiens Road and follow the signs.
In commemoration of the First World War Centennial, TMM will host travelling exhibitions, lectures, and special events throughout 2014. Check us out on Facebook and Twitter at TMM_YYC to get up to date on the latest news.
Wild Rose Overseas: Albertans in the Great War
This exhibit will explore each of the major units from Alberta and will follow their experiences from training in Canada, to fighting in the trenches, to being demobilized. There will also be a focus on each of the major battles that Albertans were involved with. The exhibit will comprise most of The Founders’ Gallery (3500 square feet) and will include high level artifacts from TMM, the Glenbow Museum and other museums and private collections. As with all exhibits in The Founders’ Gallery, this exhibit will include a mix of art and artifacts, with an emphasis on 3D artifacts, but will include important art, such as watercolours and sketches by Inglis Sheldon-Williams.
