Canada Olympic Park (COP) hosted several of the more spectacular winter sports in the 1988 Olympics, and now it offers many of the same experiences to tourists.

In the winter, visitors can try their hand at skiing, snowboarding and even bobsleigh, where a professional driver will pilot you down the track for the most exhilarating 60 seconds of your life. (Book well in advance.)

In the summer hit the 25 km of mountain bike trails – most of them pointed downhill (a high-speed chairlift takes you back to the top). If biking's not your style ride the Skyline: a zip line that will rocket you downhill from the top of the ski jump tower, deploying a parachute at the bottom to slow you down.

COP is within the city limits, a leisurely 20 minute cab ride from any downtown hotel.
