Calgary is home to an abundance of professional and collegiate teams:

The Calgary Flames – National Hockey League 

The Flames have been entertaining Calgarians since their move from Atlanta in 1980 winning their first and only championship in 1989. In 2004 their unexpected run to the Stanley Cup Finals gave rise to the infamous Red Mile, and in 2011 the team hosted and won the second NHL Heritage Classic outdoor game.

The Calgary Stampeders – Canadian Football League 

The CFL team has been a fixture here since 1945. In 1949, the Stamps first made it to the Grey Cup final, Canada’s national football championship game. And before that game was over, Calgary’s legendary status as a city that really knows how to throw a party was firmly established across the entire country leading to the creation of the Grey Cup Festival.

The Calgary Hitmen- Canadian Hockey League

Founded in 1994, the CHL major junior hockey team play in the Central Division of the Western Hockey League and are owned and operated by the Calgary Flames.

The Calgary Roughnecks - National Lacrosse League 

The ‘Riggers’ are a professional box lacrosse team whose name pays homage to Alberta's oil and gas industry. Founded in 2001 they have twice have captured the NLL Champion's Cup in 2004 and 2009.

Collegiate Teams

At the collegiate level, Calgary enjoys the successes of the University of Calgary Dinos, Mount Royal University Cougars and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Trojans.
