Canada’s Longest Running Marathon

Dating back to August 10, 1963 the Calgary Marathon has long been a staple of the city’s sporting event calendar. The competition was voted as the Best Road Race in Alberta seven out of the last ten years. The 2019 event had 9,000 runners, 1,467 volunteers and raised $600,000 for 77 charities. The event has been able to attract a wide-variety of runners, offering a 50K Ultra distance all the way to a Family Walk & Run. In partnership with the Calgary Marathon Society, Tourism Calgary helped secure the 2015 – 2018 Canadian Half Marathon National Championships from Athletics Canada. Through collaborations like this, the Calgary Marathon Society has demonstrated their unwavering commitment to both community and the sport of Athletics.
