Be Part of Calgary's Fashion History

Renowned Calgary fashion designer Paul Hardy to design a first-of-its kind dress created from tweets

Tourism Calgary has partnered with Paul Hardy in an unprecedented “Tweet Dress” initiative, giving fashion lovers everywhere the opportunity to be part of Calgary’s fashion history and be incorporated into the creative design process of one of Canada’s top designers.

Tourism Calgary and Hardy are asking Calgarians to help with the creation of the dress by sending tweets that answer, “What’s in style in Calgary?” with hashtag #StyleYYC to Tourism Calgary’s Twitter handle, @Calgary. The tweets will be compiled and transformed into a one-of-a-kind Tweet Dress designed by Canadian fashion icon and Calgarian Paul Hardy.

“The Tweet Dress is a unique social media opportunity to create conversation and reveal Calgary as a fashion and shopping destination,” said Gisèle Danis, Vice President of Marketing, Tourism Calgary. “This interactive initiative will engage Calgarians and those who love the city from afar to share ideas and collectively, help to create something unique and beautiful.”

The social media initiative was launched at Paul Hardy’s fashion event over the weekend, where, in partnership with Tourism Calgary, clients, media and guests celebrated the 10th anniversary of Hardy’s noteworthy career and Calgary’s flourishing fashion community.

The Tweet Dress will be unveiled at Calgary’s biggest private shopping party, T’was the Night on Wednesday November 28, 2012 at The CORE. The creation of the dress will be documented and shared via Tourism Calgary’s various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram) throughout its progression.

“Combining social media and the art of design is an intriguing idea for me,” said Hardy, “I’m looking forward to reading what both Calgarians and visitors have to say about style in Calgary, and using their words to help inspire a new creation.”

To participate in the tweet dress campaign, tell @Calgary “What’s in style in Calgary?” using the hashtag #StyleYYC.

Tourism Calgary did a similar initiative last November when they reached out to twitter users asking “How do you stay warm in #YYC?” The submitted tweets were compiled and turned into a tweet compilation sung by a philharmonic chorus. The campaign received international acclaim.
