5 Ways to Celebrate Heritage Park’s 50th Anniversary
It all began in the summer of 1964, and over the past 50 years, Heritage Park has grown into Canada’s Largest Living History Experience. Celebrate by checking out these 5 top picks at the park.
1. Shop the Old West
The Historical Village offers a shopping experience that can only be found 100 years in the past. Seven period appropriate shops are located throughout the village, and house everything from old fashioned candy to stunning antiques. Stop in and say “hello” to the friendly and knowledgeable costumed shop keeps- they’ll be sure to catch you up on the local town gossip as you browse.
2. Show off your Mechanic Skills
It’s 1930 and your car has just broken down. See if you can fix it with the tools on the “Do It Yourself Mechanic” board.
3. Dine Like it’s 1899
No trip through history would be complete without the tastes of old time candy, fresh baked gingerbread, or for the historically hungry, decadent dishes inspired by Canada. Discover the flavours that have stood the test of time at The Selkirk Grille where elegant dining comes with a dash of history.
4. Spend the Day Out with Thomas
Spend the day with Thomas the Tank Engine as part of The Thrill of the Ride 2014 Day Out With Thomas Tour! Take a photo with Sir Topham Hatt and Thomas the Tank Engine, enjoy the interactive model train display, spend time at the arts and crafts Imagination Station, and hop on select rides on the midway!
5. Take a Self-guided Walking Tour
See and feel the past come to life in front of your eyes. Be a part of Western Canadian history from the 1860s to the 1950s. The tour is available at the front gates and can be downloaded in multiple languages.
