1. Kick-off the Stampede with a YA-HOO at the Downtown Parade!


Officially kick-off the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth with the Calgary Stampede Parade on Friday, July 7, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The Parade has become a Calgary tradition and showcases more than 30 marching bands, 40 floats, 750 horses and 4,000 people.

In 2017, you can enjoy the same great parade with a whole new direction. Hear the band strike the first chords of Stampede at the intersection of 9th Avenue and 1st Street SE, and then following it along 9th Avenue, up 10 Street SW, and then down 6th Avenue to Macleod Trail. Finish off the parade in style with free admission between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. 

2. Try the adrenaline pumping rides and games of the Stampede Midway


From kid sized rides in The Great FUNtier to 36-meter drops for the ultimate adrenaline junkie— the Stampede Midway provides fun for the whole family! Thrill seekers will love Spin Out, a 45-foot tall rotating claw that will spin you in every way imaginable, including upside down! Challenge your aim and your luck with Midway games and take home a prize!

Talented youth from Southern Alberta come together for the Calgary Stampede Showband, the only five-time World Champion of Marching Show Bands. Don’t miss their daily performances on the Scotiabank Saddledome steps at 1:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. for classic tunes and high energy covers of today’s biggest hits. 

5. Watch four-legged action stars


Let the dogs out and be amazed by the high-flying stunts and agility tricks at the Dog Bowl. Get a front row seat for these four-legged friends from early in the morning until their new nightly performance at 10:45 p.m. for the ultimate fireworks viewing zone.

6. Watch two-legged action stars

Catch extreme motorsports riders defy gravity and reach new heights as they take the Bell Adrenaline Ranch into four dimensions in 2017. Get out of your seat at the Stampede Corral in the BMO Centre and see motocross pros fly through a 3D light show for a one-of-a-kind adrenaline show that has never been tried anywhere in the world. 

7. Take a trip around the world

The Calgary Stampede is home to 10 straight days of music that will have you dancing in no time. Usher & The Roots, Brooks & Dunn, and Johnny Reid take the stage at the Calgary Stampede in 2017 for the Virgin Mobile Stampede Concert Series at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

No Stampede experience is complete without a free show at the Coca-Cola Stage. This year’s lineup features performances from Canada’s own Alessia Cara, Marianas Trench, and Nelly Furtado.

12. Explore Canadian Heritage at Indian Village

The Indian Village has been an important part of the Calgary Stampede since 1912 and now includes 26 tipis in a traditional circle with daily Pow Wow Competitions, beadwork, buckskin outfits, and artifacts, as well as a marketplace of textiles, art, and crafts from local First Nations artisans.

13. See cowboy champions crowned daily


Complete your cowboy experience and enjoy an afternoon at the Calgary Stampede Rodeo. Cowboys and cowgirls face off each day at 1:15 p.m. with the hopes of making it to Showdown Sunday, Rodeo’s Richest Afternoon with over $2 million in prize money on the line.

Did you know that champions are crowned daily in a series of classic competitions? The Agricultural Showcases are home to a unique western experience of demonstrations, hands-on experiences and a chance to get up close to all sorts of country critters. World champions compete in everything from Calgary Stampede Blacksmith Classic and the Team Cattle Penning Championships to the North American Sheep Shearing Challenge and the World Stock Dog Championship

14. Giddy-up for nightly festivities

Nightly entertainment at the Calgary Stampede begins with legendary GMC Rangeland Derby followed by the unforgettable TransAlta Grandstand Show. Together – A Show 150 Years in the Making celebrates Canada’s milestone birthday with host Jann Arden, and an all Canadian team of musicians, acrobats, and dancers for an entertainment spectacular you will never forget. 

15. Explore Canada’s Only City-Wide Party


Gather the crew for a night out and follow the sound of the beat to find the find great events at some of Calgary’s legendary venues.

Cowboys Dance Hall throws open the doors on their own cowboy tent with The Chainsmokers, The Beach Boys, The Offspring, Dustin Lynch & Brothers Osborne, and Big Sean & Fetty Wap taking the stage just steps from Stampede Park.

The Wildhorse Saloon is one of Calgary’s legendary off-site parties, housed in a tent Downtown and provides an energetic atmosphere for those looking for to party like a Stampede veteran.

Ranchman’s Cookhouse and Dancehall is an epic local spot where you’ll find a great crowd of true Westerners looking to show off on the infamous mechanical bull.

BONUS TIP: Stay up late with IGNITE

Light up the night before the rodeo gets started with IGNITE, a brand new way to experience the Calgary Stampede. Live DJs from Beat Drop dial up the volume while Beakerhead  brings its unique blend of art, science, and engineering to the Park. Put on some headphones and dance the night away with a silent disco at the Coca-Cola Stage or get a head start on the midway with an electric experience open until 1:00 a.m. on Thursday July 6.
