Here’s 10 hacks for the ultimate weekend of country music in Calgary this summer.

1. Living it up in the cheap seats

If you are a fan of the cheap seats, like Dallas Smith, get a single day ticket and grab a spot on the hill for a concert experience worth singing about. Bring a blanket and get a great view of the main stage from the hill and you won’t miss your favourite song. See Dallas Smith Friday August 18 at 7:00 p.m.

2. Just give me a road and a little gasoline

Parking is limited at Country Thunder but there are great transportation options that will get you to and from the festival and save you a little gasoline, like Terri Clark. The McKnight – Westwinds Calgary Transit C Train station is just a few blocks from the festival grounds or stay at a participating hotel and take advantage of their special shuttle service. See Terri Clark Saturday August 19 at 5:30 p.m.

3. You are the star of the show

Be the star of the show, like Thomas Rhett, and catch superstar headliners on the main stage each night. Brad Paisley kicks off the festival Friday night with his entertaining guitar driven stage show. Thomas Rhett will bring the party to Saturday night while The Voice judge Blake Shelton closes out the festival fun on Sunday. See Thomas Rhett Saturday August 19 at 9:00 p.m.

4. I’m going out with my boots on

Put your boots on, like Randy Houser, and bring your best western wear for the ultimate country music festival experience. Official Country Thunder swag goes great with a cowboy hat and some dusty denim. If you really want to blend in, pick up some gear from Smithbilt Hats or Alberta Boot Company.  See Randy Houser Saturday August 19 at 7:00 p.m.

5. Just getting lawn chair lazy

Pro tip – you can bring a soft lawn chair to Country Thunder for a comfortable view of the main stage. Get lawn chair lazy, like James Barker Band, and put your cowboy boots up for the best country music festival of the summer. See James Barker Band Sunday August 20 at 3:00 p.m.

6. My love affair with water

Start your own love affair with water, like Brad Paisley, and bring an unopened water bottle to the festival. That way, you can stay hydrated under the hot summer sun and be ready when the headliners take the main stage. See Brad Paisley Friday August 18 at 9:00 p.m.

7. That looks like home to me

There’s plenty of Canadian country music superstars on the lineup this year that will make any visitor feel right at home, like Alberta’s own High Valley. Icons like The Road Hammers, Dallas Smith, James Barker Band, and Terri Clark will also be waving the maple leaf at Country Thunder in 2017.

8. Take me somewhere sunny and 75

Soak up the sunny weather, like Joe Nichols, and bring a hat, beach towel, sunglasses, and sun block to beat the heat. You can even bring a backpack or fanny pack to the festival to store all your gear. See Joe Nichols Saturday August 19 at 4:00 p.m.

9. Shot of glory

Catch the next big thing in country music before the radio catches on with up and coming artists looking for a shot of glory, like The Washboard Union. Superstar Maren Morris’s fiancé  Ryan Hurd is ready to break out, along with Nashville native Chase Bryant, or Miranda Lambert’s opener The Dungarees looking for their next big hit.

10. There’s a neon light

Feel the neon light, like Blake Shelton, with a Platinum Experience ticket that will let you see Country Thunder from every angle. Enjoy a private front-of-stage viewing area, access to a private food and beverage area, and exclusive restroom trailers to beat the lineups. See Blake Shelton Sunday August 20 at 8:30 p.m.
