On July 1, 1964, Heritage Park Historical Village opened its gates for the first time to 10,000 visitors. The park featured a smattering of historical buildings, a handful of costumed staff and a circling locomotive. At the time, Calgary’s population was just under 300,000 and this little historical village was a welcome tourist attraction for a growing city. As Calgary flourished, so did Heritage Park. Today, as Heritage Park celebrates its 50th anniversary, it has grown into Canada’s largest living history experience and one of Calgary’s most visited attractions.
