Canada Day Activities in Calgary 2013
Thanks to the dedicated, tireless workers and volunteers, the vast amajority of Calgary's tourism attractions, accomodations and festivals are still up and running as we move from crisis to recovery.
Shaw Millennium Park
11 a.m. - 11:15 p.m.
The festivities at Prince's Island Park have been relocated this year to Shaw Millennium Park. Plans are still underway to adapt the party, but one thing is for sure: we can all take a moment to collectively marvel at the fireworks going off on the Centre Street Bridge. Consider it a pyrotechnic high-five to all those who are helping us pull through this crisis.
1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
222 8 Ave S.E.
The sounds of the drum will resonate through the air of downtown Calgary as Olympic & Municipal Plaza come alive with the heartbeat of the nation this Canada Day! Vibrant Aboriginal culture will be showcased where Calgarians can partake in music and dance at the exhibition powwow, participate in interactive fun at storytelling and crafts (for all ages), experience Aboriginal cuisine, and more!
Heritage Park “Dominion Day/Canada Day”
9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Celebrate Canada Day, or as we celebrated it in 1910, Dominion Day at Heritage Park Historical Village. The Park will be bustling with activities from family games, entertainers and music to an emotional citizenship ceremony followed by birthday cake! Buy tickets here.
In response to the recent flooding, Heritage Park is asking guests to help us fill a covered horse-drawn wagon full of donated non-perishable food, water and personal hygiene items including diapers for the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank. As well, Heritage Park will be collecting monetary donations at the front admission gate for the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Floods 2013. Read more ...
Wherever you are, look up, way up! Fireworks off the Centre Street bridge will light up the Calgary sky and cap off an amazing birthday party for our nation.

Millarville Races and Family “Fun Day”
The Millarville Races are run on July 1st every year at the same location, and in fact the first races were run at our track in 1905 shortly before Alberta became a province. The main focus of the event is, of course, the horse races, however the Race Committee has a stated objective of making this a “Fun Day” for families and not just a day for placing your two dollar bet on the racing horses.
The day’s agenda includes foot racing events for all the kids, and multiple novelty races for everyone’s enjoyment. There are also jumping tents, a money hill and other attractions for the younger generation to enjoy; making sure this is truly a “family Fun Day experience.”
Canada Day at Bar U Ranch
11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Admission is free at the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site for Canada Day! Come out for an official flag raising ceremony while touring the ranch and taking part in the family activities. We're having an Old Fashioned Country Celebration.
Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame will be open on Canada Day, July 1, 2013, to not only celebrate our Nations’ birthday and our 2nd anniversary, but also the inspiring spirit of Calgarians and Albertans. We are offering free admission on Canada Day to anyone making a minimum $2 donation to the flood relief efforts in Alberta. We invite visitors to join us for a full day of family friendly fun including airbrush tattoos, a gymnastics obstacle course, crafts, basketball plus over 50 hands-on interactive exhibits to test your skills and much more. www.sportshall.ca
