DerTour Academy in Calgary
Tourism Calgary was proud to host DerTour Academy from November 29 – December 11, 2013. DerTour is one of the largest tour operators in Germany and Austria and this is the first time Alberta has hosted the academy. Less than 5% of the 576 delegates had been to Canada before and Calgary was primed to showcase our famous western hospitality.
The two weeks were filled with city tours, events, dinners… and sub-zero temperatures. But that didn’t stop our guests from having an amazing time. From authentic pancake breakfasts at the Stampede to snowball fights at Heritage Park to bobsled runs at Winsport, these Germans had a blast despite the frigid temps. Clearly they were well versed in Canadian winters as each one came prepared with boots, toques and ski pants. The smiles and laughs said everything.
Thank you to all our valued partners who worked so hard to make this once in a lifetime event so successful. The Germans were blown away by our hospitality and everything Calgary has to offer. We can expect significant economic impact over the next few years as these travel agents and tour operators start booking their clients’ trips to Calgary.
