Simple Beauty By Sheila P
The original creator of the Reader Rock Garden, William Roland Reader, was a passionate professional gardener who helped turn a nearly treeless Calgary into the "garden city of the West". He built this garden while he was Superintendent of Calgary Parks from 1913 to 1942 (he died in 1943, one month after retiring). Today's garden has been carefully restored according to Reader's original plans and national standards for cultural landscapes.
